New Sss Members Reach Record High in H1 2024 With 2.4 Million

New Sss Members Reach Record High in H1 2024 With 2.4 Million. The Social Security System (SSS) is poised for a milestone year in 2024, according to SSS President and CEO Rolando Ledesma Macasaet. As of July, SSS registered an impressive 2.4 million new members, marking a significant step toward achieving record membership growth.

In a recent press briefing, Macasaet reported that the total number of new SSS members from January to July 2024 surged by 165%, jumping from 923,000 during the same period in 2023 to 2.4 million this year.

New Sss Members Reach Record High in H1 2024 With 2.4 Million

“In previous years, SSS typically registered around one million new members annually. This year, we aimed for two million new registrants, and we’ve already exceeded that goal in just the first half of 2024,” Macasaet stated. He credited this achievement to the organization’s widespread membership campaigns and outreach efforts.

He emphasized that this growth reflects SSS’s commitment to expanding its reach among working Filipinos, ensuring they have access to essential social security benefits. “This increase in membership is not just a number—it’s about providing more Filipinos with the social security protection they need, especially in times of financial uncertainty,” Macasaet said.

Boost in Self-Employed and OFW Membership

SSS Executive Vice President for Branch Operations, Voltaire P. Agas, highlighted that the surge in membership was driven by individuals with prior registrations. These are people who already had SSS numbers but had not been officially registered as employees or self-employed members, totaling 1.2 million new members.

Agas also noted a remarkable rise in self-employed individuals joining SSS, with a 273% increase from 112,000 in 2023 to 419,000 in 2024. Additionally, new Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) memberships more than doubled, rising from just over 5,000 last year to 10,300 in 2024.

Data revealed that Luzon accounted for the highest number of new members, with over 882,000, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with more than 693,000. Mindanao and the Visayas recorded 436,000 and 417,000 new enrollees, respectively, while international operations saw over 10,000 new members.

Nationwide Registration Day Success

One of the key initiatives contributing to this growth was the Nationwide Registration Day held on July 15, which saw more than 26,000 new members sign up at SSS e-service booths in malls and partner establishments. During this event, SSS encouraged all working Filipinos to become members, highlighting the importance of social security benefits.

In addition to new member registrations, the SSS e-services booth facilitated transactions for 54,000 existing members, assisting them with creating My.SSS accounts, resetting login credentials, updating member records, enrolling disbursement accounts, generating Payment Reference Numbers (PRN), and processing salary and benefit claims.

Aiming for 5 Million New Members by Year-End

Looking ahead, Macasaet expressed confidence that SSS could register between four and five million new members by the end of 2024. “We have already surpassed our initial target halfway through the year, but we are committed to maintaining this growth trajectory in the coming months.”

Macasaet concluded by saying that SSS would continue to explore innovative strategies to raise awareness about social security benefits and emphasize the importance of SSS membership to all working Filipinos.
